ABOUT

Hello there, it’s nice to meet you! I am April; a physiotherapist, Yoga teacher, and runner.

Physiotherapy

I decided to get into Physical Therapy because I have always been into sports, fitness, and the different ways the body can move. For me, this was an amazing opportunity to learn about the human body and help injured athletes get back to what they loved doing. So I went in headfirst and got my Physical Therapy degree from the University of Montreal in 2013. Since then, I have gained experience working in private clinics treating sports injuries as well as everyday life injuries and specialized in my practice as a Musculoskeletal (MSK) physical therapist. That’s basically a fancy term for dealing with injuries relating to muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, etc.

Yoga

I’m also a certified Yoga teacher (RYT-200). I began my Yoga journey over 10 years ago when I was going through my university degree. I couldn’t believe how much it helped me physically and mentally. I was noticing benefits that translated into my everyday life as well as during my runs. I truly fell in love with Yoga and decided to go through teacher training. What I learned has helped me as a physiotherapist to better serve my clients, and also in my everyday life.

Running

Running is also a big part of my fitness journey. I have always loved the feeling of physical and mental freedom that it gives me, not to mention the great workout! What’s great about running is how accessible it is, you can do it anywhere and anytime as long as you have a comfy pair of shoes. Over the years, I have also learned the hard way that running is not the only thing I could rely on for a workout. I needed to build a good foundation for my running: strength, balance, breathwork, etc.

My goal with Shape Physio is to combine everything I am passionate about; fitness, running, and Yoga.

Another important aspect of being a physical therapist is education. It’s something we have less time to do in a private clinic setting that is more fast-paced. I believe that so many injuries could be prevented if people had a better knowledge of their bodies. I want to provide evidence-based education as well as safe and effective fitness classes for runners who want to build a solid foundation and reduce the risk of injuries. Follow along through my blog!
